Field Camera

A GPS field camera for iPhone. Coordinates, bearing, altitude and time, burned into the photo and written into its metadata.

Need help? Email xuxiayu2010@gmail.com and describe what happened. If it's about a specific photo, the Details screen for that photo shows every reading — a screenshot of it helps enormously.

Common questions

Where are my photos?

Inside Field Camera, in the library — tap the thumbnail at the bottom-left of the viewfinder. They are deliberately not in your camera roll, so clearing your camera roll never empties your library. If you also want copies in Photos, turn on "Also save to Photos" in Settings.

The stamp says NO GPS FIX

The phone hasn't got a position yet. This is normal indoors, in a basement, or in the first seconds after opening the app. The chip at the top-left of the viewfinder shows the current fix quality — wait for it to go green. Field Camera says so on the photo rather than stamping a position it isn't sure about.

The bearing is missing or looks wrong

A compass reading needs the magnetometer, and it can be thrown off by vehicles, steel structures and magnetic phone mounts. If iOS asks you to wave the phone in a figure of eight, do that. When the reading is too uncertain to trust, Field Camera leaves it off the stamp rather than printing a confident wrong number.

The altitude is missing

The same principle: when iOS reports that its altitude reading isn't valid, the app omits it instead of stamping 0.0 m. Try again with a better sky view, or switch the altitude source in Settings — mean sea level, above the ellipsoid, or barometric.

Which coordinate format should I use?

All five are free: decimal degrees, degrees-decimal-minutes, degrees-minutes-seconds, UTM and MGRS. Change it any time in Settings — and because every photo keeps an untouched original, you can select photos in the library and re-stamp them in a different format later.

Can I change the stamp after taking the photo?

Yes. Every capture keeps an original with no stamp on it. In the library, tap Select, choose photos, then Re-stamp. The original is never modified.

I bought Pro and it isn't showing

Open Settings and tap "Restore purchase". Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with. If it still doesn't appear, email us — do not buy it twice.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. It is a single payment, and it never expires. And nothing that is free in Field Camera today will ever be moved behind that paywall.
